The Bidasoa Greenway recovers much of the route of the Tren Txikito (Little Train) which used to run from Irun to Elizondo, and provides an unforgettable journey some 42 km long which takes us through some beautiful villages of Guipúzcoa and Navarre on the banks of the river Bidasoa.
Here at Cederna Garalur we encourage you to take the Bidasoa Greenway, but you will need to take care; due to the poor state of the surface between Endarlatsa and Lesaka, users travel on this section at their own risk.
Users should also be aware that the Montoya Tunnel (located on the section that runs between Endarlatsa to Lesaka) has no lighting, so we advise users to carry flashlights or cycle lamps.
On the Sunbilla section users must respect the livestock crossing and be on the lookout for the small amount of motor traffic using the trail. The country houses that were built along the route of the old railway now use the greenway as their only access route.
Cederna Garalur and the town councils of Baztan, Bertizarana, Malerreka and Bortziriak are working to improve the present situation of the Bidasoa Greenway. In the meantime we apologize to users for any inconvenience these shortcomings may cause and recommend taking the necessary precautions in order to continue enjoying the Bidasoa Greenway and the region as a whole.
